|Personal History||Nathan grew up in a Star Fleet family. His Father, James Terrance Tonkin, was a security officer when Nathan was born. His mother, Brenda Tonkin, was a nurse on the ship the two shared. The USS Angels Mercy. It was often said that James fell in love with Brenda because he spent so much time with her while getting patched up. James was always the one sent to deal with unruly people.
Nathan grew up on Star Ships, not setting foot on an actual planet until he was 6. His Father was a very strict, military minded man and raised Nathan in that setting. Nathan was even forced to stand at attention when James walked into the room and remain that way until told at ease. His mother on the other hand was very loving and doting to her son, always fussing over him to make sure he had enough to eat or enough activities to keep him busy while her and her husband were working.
Like father like son, Nathan actually grew to love the militaristic life style and when he was old enough signed right up for Star Fleet Academe in the security and tactical field. He was a star student, never disappointing his instructors, and even made squad commander and kept it for the entire time he was there. His squad was a well-oiled machine, never late, never out of step, peek physical condition. Every member of the squad got top marks and when asked how the whole squad was capable of this task everyone would just point to Nathan.
Nathan was posted on the ship he grew up on, USS Angels Mercy as a security officer. He was proud to walk the halls as an officer that his father had walked and he had grown up in. He worked very hard and with the help of his father (now an admiral) he was promoted to lieutenant JG in 3 years.
6 months after this he was transferred to USS Marvel as the Assistant Chief of Security. Here he also worked hard with militaristic efficacy and started to learn tactical from his chief. He spent another year working hard and learning from his Chief when the position of Chief security and tactical came open on the USS Katana.
This promotion would also come with a new rank, so he put in his application and after a few interview he was selected. Now a full blow lieutenant, Nathan begins his job as head of security and tactical.
Nathans time on Katana was full of ups and downs, and that's putting it mildly. Almost immediately Nathan was wounded and had to be saved by his then soon to be fiancee and mother of his first child Jhu t'Dharvanek. This sparked a string of adventures the two would share (mostly in the form of Jhu having to save his ass) and fall in love over. Nathan served bravely along side his crew and his captain credited him many times with the survival of both the ship and personnel, just look at Captain Kerouac's eulogy. Or what he would have said were he not locked up during Nathans funeral. See, on Nathans last mission; one that has been labeled as top secret and has the highest level of clearance on it, Nathan died. Or at lest it was thought that he had fallen off a cliff to his doom. This has since been proven as not true and after a short rehabilitation, Nathan has been cleared as fit for duty. Due to restructuring on board the USS Katana he has been reassigned to Deleth Station.
